Course Background

This Personal Training course from Setanta equips learners with cutting-edge health and training knowledge, alongside expert client interaction skills. Covering anatomy, nutrition, energy systems, and gym instruction, the course prepares students to assess, coach, and motivate clients effectively while ensuring safety and promoting long-term health and fitness outcomes.

Upon completion of the course, students will gain the below qualifications:

  • Personal Training Level 3
  • Gym Instructor Level 2

*This qualification is awarded by Setanta Institute through CIMSPA.

What is Involved?

This course includes 10 weekly topics, followed by an assessment period. Lectures are delivered asynchronously online every week by industry leaders and internationally recognised fitness trainers.

Course Details & Enrolment

The course has been designed to accommodate the working professional and will fit in a flexible manner into your daily schedule.

This course includes 10 weekly topics, followed by an assessment period.  Recorded lectures are delivered online every week by industry leaders and internationally recognised fitness trainers.

Students are assessed through a variety of methods including quizzes, case studies, practical video submissions and interviews.

Students must be 16 years of age upon commencement of the course.
In the case of international learners where English is not their first language, they will be required to demonstrate a sufficient level of English Language proficiency. Setanta College accept the following:
1. IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or equivalent score of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) normally IELTS 6 which must be dated within 2 years of enrolment onto programme.
2. CEFR standard (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B2+ which must be dated within 2 years of enrolment onto programme.

At Setanta, our lecturers are experts in their field and qualified to MSc or PhD level. They are also former highlevel sports people, qualified, enthusiastic Strength and Conditioning coaches and Performance Scientists. They come from varied sporting backgrounds including team and individual sports.

PJ Wilson 

PJ is Academic Director at Setanta. Previously PJ worked as the Head of Strength & Conditioning at Bath Rugby, Cardiff City FC and was the Strength & Conditioning Coach for the senior Munster Rugby team.

Dr David Drake 

Dr David Drake the Head of Education at Setanta and he is a programme leader in professional sports organisations, contributing to rugby, Olympic sports, and Gaelic Games with teams including Ulster Rugby and Worcester. Holds a PhD in Neuromuscular Physiology. Blends scientific principles with coaching art for performance excellence.

Hanno van Vuuren

Hanno van Vuuren is a module leader at Setanta with experience in strength and conditioning, rugby coaching, and athlete development across school, club, and collegiate sport. Holds a BSc and BSc Honours in Sport Science from Stellenbosch University, blending academic knowledge with practical coaching expertise.

Dr Christine Wall

Dr Christine is the Postgraduate Lead at Setanta and a registered biokineticist, Dr Wall has extensive experience with elite school sports teams across rugby, netball, and cricket, as well as professional teams in football and cricket. She was a key member of the performance and rehabilitation team for the Free State Cheetahs. Dr Wall holds a PhD titled ‘Integrated Guidelines for Return-to-Play Decision-Making after Musculoskeletal Injury in Rugby Union.
